Introduction

The Legend (The Legend in original version) is the fourth episode of the Cars on the Road series. It is the episode that introduces Ivy, the most important recurring character in the series after Lightning McQueen and Mater.

The Cars on the Road series

Airing on Disney+ since September 8, 2022, Cars on the Road follows Lightning and Mater's road trip eastward. This episode plays the card of the monster and cryptid movie (in the manner of Bigfoot hunters).

Episode Summary: The Legend

Lightning McQueen and Mater join local cryptid hunters tracking a mysterious "monster" in the mountains. Lightning strays from the group, convinced that no Bigfoot would stay with all the noise from the hunters.

He then hears noises and spots the silhouette of a huge vehicle with large wheels. Panicked, Lightning flees, eventually shakes off the "creature" but hits a tree and loses consciousness.

Upon waking, Lightning finds himself suspended from the ceiling of a cabin. The creature dances in front of him then emerges from the shadows: it's not a monster, but a female monster truck covered in mud and moss. She introduces herself: her name is Ivy, she used to perform in front of crowds before stopping after an incident.

Mater arrives in turn and is also captured. Ivy simply wants to drive the cryptid trackers out of her mountain. Lightning and Mater agree to help her: using objects found in her basement, they set up an alien hoax that terrifies the hunters and drives them out of the woods for good.

As Lightning and Mater get back on the road to the wedding, Ivy catches up to them and asks if she can join them. They happily agree — and Ivy gradually loses her moss as she drives alongside them.
