Episode Summary: Salt Fever

While crossing a vast salt desert, Lightning McQueen and Mater end up getting lost. Lightning then challenges Mater to a friendly race — but they are interrupted by a record-breaking car that speeds past them.

The duo discovers a camp of drivers attempting to break the land speed record. While Lightning remains wary, Mater befriends Noriyuki, presented as an engineer, who recruits him as a tester to replace the previous one… who allegedly "exploded."

Mater then finds himself equipped with rocket engines to go ever faster — to his great delight, and Lightning's great dismay.

Recruited as a test driver, Mater ends up strapped with rocket engines right in the middle of the camp.
